Not motivated to go to the gym?
Well today I’d like to let you in on a little secret…
A secret to never missing a workout.
To being on time.
To staying on your grind.
And a secret to finding success.
The one secret?
D I S C I P L I N E
Yes the little secret to not missing workouts, being more successful, getting bigger, or stronger is to become more disciplined.
Discipline trumps motivation any day.
Motivation is a feeling, where as discipline is a commitment to doing what you know you need to do, even when you don’t feel like doing it.
When you become more disciplined, those days that you don’t feel like going on, those days that you don’t feel like busting out another set, those days that you don’t feel like eating right, will change. Rather than throwing in the towel, you’ll simply do it anyways.
Embrace the discomfort. You have to make it part of your lifestyle. Some of the best workouts I’ve ever had were the ones I didn’t feel like going to the gym but did it anyway.
Don’t limit this mentality to be exclusive to the gym either, let it carry over into all aspects of your life.
Be the best mom, the best dad, the best employee, the best boss.
Train harder, smarter.
Wake up earlier.
Read and learn.
Do what it takes and become the best you you can possibly be.
If you want to get anywhere you have to keep pushing.
Ask yourself these questions:
#1) How bad do you want it?
If you want it bad enough you will find a way. Think of the end result in those days you don’t feel like going in and knock it out! Anything worth having is worth fighting for.
#2) Are you hitting the mark with your diet?
If you aren’t fueling your body with what you need you won’t have the energy to train as hard and consistently as you need to to bust through plateaus and achieve greatness. Eat plenty of healthy real food, track your calories and macros to be sure you aren’t eating too much/too little, and leave a little wiggle room to enjoy a treat from time to time. This requires big discipline too.
#3) How’s your sleep?
If you aren’t getting enough quality sleep your workouts and motivation levels will definitely suffer. Make it a priority to sleep deep, sleep the right amount, and be consistent with it.
#4) What is your lifestyle like?
Take a step back and evaluate your life. Are you stressed out? Working too much? Taking on too many tasks and spreading yourself too thin? Unhealthy spiritually (because we are made up of mind, body, and spirit)? All of these things contribute to your overall health, happiness, and motivation levels! If you are failing in one aspect the others will soon follow suit.
#5) When was the last time you took a deload and dialed back?
Always push forward but remember that sometimes to move forward you have to take a step back. Sometimes you actually do need to give yourself a break! This doesn’t necessarily mean to take time off from training – just take a week and dial back the weight or switch to body weight movements to give your joints and nervous system a much needed break. If you’re still fried and unmotivated after that than maybe you do need to take a week to completely rest and recover to come back feeling refreshed and strong.
Hope this was a swift kick in the butt to someone who was about to lose the day! Let’s not forget how blessed we really are and all of the opportunities that God has given to us. We have woken up to breathe and fight another day. Keep going it’s not over yet!
Happy 2018 guys. Get out there and crush it 💪🏻
