Want to keep up with your New Year’s resolutions this year? Then stop letting them simply be resolutions and start setting and crushing real goals. Life changing goals. Goals that’ll make you into the person that you were born to be. Resolutions are easily broken… but a victoriously achieving true goals are something to strive for.
Write them down.
Think about the steps that it will take to achieve them.
Tell family and friends about them so that people will hold you accountable.
Then get out there in kill it.
Everyone has what it takes to make a change and better themselves. It’s something that’s buried deep down inside of all of us, but not everyone will actually do what it takes to get there.
Be willing to push forward even when it feels like the whole world is against you. Be willing to work hard and even make necessary sacrifices to get from point A to point B.
And finally start thinking not only of today, but where achieving your goals will benefit you and take you in the future. Many goals will have a snowball effect, so achieving one will only lead to bigger and better things.
Have a goal to build a better body this year? Look deeper than just looking good naked!! Think of your health and wellness. About how much easier it will be to move and how much better you’ll feel as the pounds of fat melt away, how moving and breaking a sweat will aid in the battles with depression. Think about the feelings of victory and satisfaction as you grow stronger physically and mentally week after week. Then think even beyond that about being able to carry your own groceries into your house at 75 years old and not being on 15 different prescription meds. Let being there for the ones you love and still being able to function later in life drive you to move your body more and eat better! Looking good is only one facet of the whole health and fitness game so focus not only on that but every other added benefit of a healthy life change as well. Then looking better will just be the icing on the cake 😉
Of course your goals don’t have to be have to be health and fitness related, but this is a fitness blog and that’s what 80% of people say their New Years resolution is. Starting your own business and escaping the 9-5, being in the moment and spending less time on a cell phone, reading a book a week, or being a better parent or spouse are also very honorable things! Whatever the goal, let it be something that gets you out of your comfort zone and pushes you to be the best person you could possibly be. Become just a little better day by day and stay consistent. Take failures with stride and realize that sometimes struggles are just learning experiences shaping you into the person you need to be.
A few goals of mine for 2017:
- Branching out and working on some of the other aspects of health and fitness. Being muscular and jacked is one thing, but overall health is definitely another. So this year I plan on focusing more on some things I should have been focused on from the very beginning, shoulder and joint health, heart health, and mental health. That doesn’t mean I’m going to take it easier in the gym by any means, aside from maybe going a bit lighter on my pressing and arm movements. What it means is more stretching and mobility work, cutting out inflammatory foods, smart supplementation, being sure to get enough sleep, amongst plenty of other things.
- Reading more. Especially the bible. A lot of people have a goal of reading the entire bible in one year but that’s not necessarily my plan. I’ve tried that before but it usually ends with me trying to speed read to get more pages under my belt and never really digesting what I’m reading. So this time around I’m going to slow the pace and really try to soak up everything I’m reading. I’d like to read other things as well, be it health books, business books, motivational books. Anything that’ll help push me to be a better person.
- Building up Sweet Machine Fitness as a brand. I don’t want to divulge too much into plans at this time but there is a lot in the works! Keep your eyes peeled.
2017 is here. Get out there and crush it. Make a difference for not only yourself, but every other important person in your life.
Whatever the goal, take the plunge and get started today!! God bless.
